My name is Somit Kumar Dutta, and I am a teacher of Yoga and Spirituality with 19 years of experience. Along with yoga, I also teach Ayurveda, astrology, music, Indian cuisine, and Indian language classes. I have established two yoga centers overseas, and my society has been mentioned in Japanese and Korean travel guidebooks.
I strongly believe in teaching every student the authentic and traditional way of yoga, so they can truly understand how to live their life with awareness, balance, and positivity. For me, yoga is not only physical exercise – it is a complete science of life that helps every human being make the most of their existence.
My journey was not easy. My childhood was full of struggles. My parents were very poor, and many times we did not have enough food to eat. When I was a young boy, my school teacher asked me to pay my monthly fees. My parents tried their best but could not arrange the money. The next day, when the teacher asked again, I requested more time, but she refused and told me to leave the school. Six other children were told the same thing. That day, I made a promise to myself – one day I would open a free school for poor, street, and slum children, where they would receive free education, food, and the opportunity for a brighter future.
At the age of 10, I went to an Ashram to gain spiritual knowledge. The teachings and discipline I learned there gave me new strength and direction in life. After one year, when I returned to Varanasi, something unexpected happened. One day, by chance, I met a tourist who asked me about yoga classes. I told them I could teach yoga and from that simple moment, my journey as a yoga teacher began.
Today, along with teaching yoga and spirituality, I continue my social work for the children of Varanasi, working toward the dream I made as a child – to give others the opportunities I once did not have.
